Effective October 1, 2010 House Bill 464 allows Detention Centers to regain funds from its inmates on things such as damages caused by the inmate, medical treatment, and prescription drugs.
The Walton County Detention Center at this time charges its inmates $ 5.00 each time you see the medical department, effective October 1, 2010 we will also charge $ 7.00 per prescription, provided you have the funds. If you do not, the debit will be added to your account and will be deducted at which times funds become available. If you have a self inflected injury, (jump from top of bunk, stairs, fight with another inmate) you will be held responsible for any and all medical charges pertaining to that alternation or self inflected injury. This also holds true for any item you damage while being at the Walton County Detention Center.
Also effective October 1, 2010 we will assess a $1.00 per month service charge for handling your account, as a bank would do your personal account. The first $1.00 will be assessed at the time you arrive at the Walton County Detention Center and then on the 5th day of each month following. Again if funds are not available on the 5th, the debit will be added to your account and funds will be withdrawn when they are available.
Also effective immediately we have installed a SMART DEPOSIT (Kiosks) Machine in the lobby area of the Sheriffs Office (main entrance). This machine will allow your family and friends to automatically deposit funds into your Canteen account, without having to mail in a money order. This machine can be used 24 hours 7 days a week. This machine operates with cash as well as credit / ATM cards. You will not be able to receive cash from the machine only deposit can be made. Please advise your family and friends. Please remember there is a $ 250.00 limit on all inmate accounts.

These post cards will be available for you to purchase off the Commissary weekly. Please advise your family and friends of this change. Effective November 1, 2010 all letters mailed to an inmate at the Walton County Detention Center will be returned to sender.
Effective November 1, 2010, no more pictures will be accepted into the Walton County Detention Center.
